Bratislava wants to become European Capital of Culture in 2013
Bratislava, December 7, 2006 (BratislavaGuide.com) - Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, will compete with Kosice, Nitra, Banska Bystrica and Martin for the title European Capital of Culture in 2013.
Between 2007 and 2019, the EU will designate two cities each year to be the European Capitals of Culture - one in a new member state and one in the EU-15. The states for each year have been set so competition takes place between cities at the national level. European Union has been awarding this title since 1985.
The decision-making committe will be composed of six Slovak delegates and seven nominees od European institutions with the decision scheduled for 2008.
