Skyeurope 2007 winter schedule reduces Bratislava, boosts Vienna as base

Bratislava, November 12, 2007 (Bratislava-City.sk) – Slovakia-based low cost airline Skyeurope shifted flights from its original Bratislava, Slovakia base to its new rising base at the much larger nearby Vienna, Austria airport in the Winter 2007 schedule.
The flight schedule valid from October 28, 2007 dropped a number of destinations serviced from Bratislava in the summer schedule, replacing several with flights out of Vienna Schwechat Airport. Four new destinations were added for Bratislava: London Luton (replacing flights to London Stansted), Prague, Birmingham and Cork.
Bratislava Milan Rastislav Stefanik Airport transported some 839 thousand passengers in the first six months of 2007, including many commuting from Austria. Slovak government recently backtracked on plans to privatise the airport, triggering concerns over whether the state as the owner can develop the airport effectively in Slovak media.
A consortium including the Vienna airport was one of the bidders. The Vienna airport is some 60 km from Bratislava.
